Changing or correcting things
To change something, send Scriblet the change the same way you sent the update, by text or email. Always check the reply: it says what Scriblet changed, and the date.
Fixing a mistake
Section titled “Fixing a mistake”Send the right version. The newer update replaces the older one for the same duty or item on the same date.
- “Correction: the sermon title for this Sabbath is Walking in His Light.”
- “Change the opening hymn on October 17 to 526.”
If you only change part of something, the rest stays. Change the offertory song, and its performer stays the same.
A wrong date
Section titled “A wrong date”If Scriblet’s reply shows the wrong date, say both what to take off and what to put on:
Karen isn’t greeter on October 10. She’s greeter on October 17.
Check that the reply mentions both dates.
Changing who’s on a duty
Section titled “Changing who’s on a duty”If you lead a department, you keep its duties up to date. When someone can’t make it, or two people trade, tell Scriblet who is on now.
- Someone standing in: name who’s in and who’s out. “Jackson on platform instead of Peterson.” “Ruth is greeting instead of Karen on October 17.”
- A swap: name both people and both dates. “Bob is deacon this week and is swapping with Joe for next week.”
Scriblet only moves the people your message names. If someone else needs to move, name them too.
For some duties, Scriblet tells you who already has it and asks before replacing them.
Changing an event or announcement
Section titled “Changing an event or announcement”Say what’s different: “The board meeting is now 7:30pm in the library.” Scriblet finds the item on the calendar and changes it, and its reply names the item it changed.
An announcement that runs for several weeks changes from the week you name to the end of its run. Earlier weeks stay as they were.
Cancelling an event or announcement
Section titled “Cancelling an event or announcement”Say “cancel”, and say whether to take it off the calendar or keep it there marked cancelled:
- Take it off: “The potluck was put in by mistake, please take it off.”
- Keep it, marked cancelled: “The potluck is cancelled, let everyone know.”
If you don’t say which, Scriblet asks you.
- A repeating event, like a weekly prayer meeting, can be cancelled or changed one week at a time: “Prayer meeting is cancelled this Wednesday.” That week stays on the calendar, marked cancelled. The other weeks are unchanged. To change every week, see Repeating events.
- An announcement that runs for several weeks stops from the week you name. To skip just one week, say so: “Leave the retreat announcement out of this week’s bulletin.”
When Scriblet checks first
Section titled “When Scriblet checks first”If Scriblet isn’t sure which item you mean, it asks before changing anything:
Just checking before I change anything. Is ‘Fellowship potluck after church’ on Sat 19 Sep the one to cancel?
Reply yes, or say which one you mean. Reply no and Scriblet changes nothing.
If it still can’t tell after two tries, it changes nothing and asks you to send it again, using the item’s name as the calendar shows it.
When Scriblet gets it wrong
Section titled “When Scriblet gets it wrong”Scriblet sometimes makes mistakes. It might say it recorded something, but then it isn’t where you expected to find it.
When that happens, send Scriblet an issue report. Just tell it what went wrong and what you expected to happen, by text or email:
You said you recorded the sermon title for October 17, but when I asked, it said nothing is set. I expected it to be there.
Someone will look into it and use it to make Scriblet better. Your exact words are kept, so say as much as helps.
An issue report doesn’t fix the calendar. Scriblet doesn’t act on the update you mention in it. Send the update again, in a separate message:
The sermon title for October 17 is Walking in the Light.
Repeating events
Section titled “Repeating events”By text or email, you can change or cancel one week of a repeating event at a time.
To add a repeating event, change it for every week, or end it, use the Recurring page in the Scriblet console. You need access to the console for that. If you don’t have it, ask your administrator to invite you.
What only your administrators can change
Section titled “What only your administrators can change”- Links on items, like a sign-up form or a flyer. A change you send keeps the link.
- Sunset times, which come from your organization’s settings.
For anything else you can’t fix by text or email, ask your administrator.
