Frequently asked questions
Getting set up
Section titled “Getting set up”How do I start? Your administrator adds you, and you get a welcome email with your organization’s Scriblet number and address. To use text, text START to the number. Email works straight away. See Texting START.
I didn’t get a welcome email. Check your spam folder, then ask your administrator to check they added you with the right email address.
Does it cost anything? No, but your carrier’s usual message rates apply to texts.
Can I be in more than one organization? You can only be on one organization’s list at a time.
Sending updates
Section titled “Sending updates”What should I send? Who is doing what, or what’s happening, and when, in your own words. “Karen is greeter this Sabbath.” See Your first update.
Does someone have to approve my update? Not if you’re a contributor. It goes straight onto the calendar. See What Scriblet does with your update.
I sent an update and got no reply. By text, check you’ve texted START and are using the right number from the right phone. By email, check you sent from the address your administrator has for you. A message that only says thanks gets no reply, and that’s normal.
Scriblet asked me a question. Do I have to answer? Nothing from that message is recorded until you do. A question waits 24 hours by text and 7 days by email.
Why did Scriblet ask which date I meant? “Next week” can mean two different days, so Scriblet checks. Give the date, like “October 17”, to skip the question.
Can an announcement run every week? Yes, by text or email. Say how long and what it should say: “Add an announcement about the campout each week until the end of the month. It should read: …” See An announcement every week.
Can I send a picture or a file? By email, yes: files are saved for your administrators, but Scriblet doesn’t read them. Pictures sent by text aren’t read either. See Sending updates by email.
Fixing things
Section titled “Fixing things”I made a mistake. Send the right version. The newer update replaces the older one. See Changing or correcting things.
How do I change who’s on a duty? Name who’s in and who’s out: “Ruth is greeting instead of Karen on October 17.” For a trade, name both people and both dates. See Changing who’s on a duty.
Scriblet said it recorded something, but it isn’t there. Send an issue report: tell Scriblet what went wrong and what you expected to happen. Someone will look into it. Then send the update again, in a separate message. See When Scriblet gets it wrong.
Scriblet’s reply has the wrong date. Say what to take off and what to put on: “Karen isn’t greeter on October 10. She’s greeter on October 17.”
Finding things out
Section titled “Finding things out”How do I see who’s on this week? Ask Scriblet: “Who has the sermon this week?” See Asking questions.
Can I hear when something is set? Yes, ask for a calendar alert: “Let me know when the sermon title is set for this Sabbath.” See Calendar alerts.
When will my update be in the bulletin? The next time an administrator makes it. A bulletin that’s already made doesn’t change on its own.
Turning things off
Section titled “Turning things off”How do I stop texts? Text STOP. That ends texts both ways, including replies and alerts. Text START to turn them back on. See Keywords.
How do I turn off one alert? Reply with its name and “alerts off”, like “deacons alerts off”. STOP turns off all texts, not just one alert.
Who do I ask for anything else? Your organization’s administrators.
