Sending updates by email
You can email your updates instead of texting them. They work the same way: write in your own words, and Scriblet replies by email to say what it recorded, or to ask a quick question.
Email doesn’t need START.
Your Scriblet address
Section titled “Your Scriblet address”Your welcome email, “You’ve been added to your organization on Scriblet”, gives your organization’s address. It looks like this:
The part after the + is your organization’s name in Scriblet. Without it, Scriblet can’t tell which organization your email is for.
The address isn’t private, so you can share it.
Sending an update
Section titled “Sending an update”- Email your organization’s Scriblet address.
- Send from the email address your administrator has for you, the one your welcome email went to.
- Write your update in the subject, the message, or both. “Karen is greeter this Sabbath” works as a subject with nothing below it.
Scriblet replies to you by email. It reads what you wrote, not the earlier messages quoted below it.
The same updates work by text or by email. See Your first update for examples, and Changing or correcting things to fix one.
An announcement every week
Section titled “An announcement every week”To put an announcement in the bulletin for several weeks, say how long it should run, and what it should say:
Add an announcement about the campout each week until the end of the month. It should read: Fall campout at Pine Lake, October 24 to 26. Sign up at the welcome desk.
- Say when it ends: “for the next three weeks”, “until the end of the month” or “through November 14”.
- Say the wording, after “it should read”. Scriblet keeps your words, as a clean sentence. Check its reply for the dates it will run.
- It’s one announcement, in each week’s bulletin until its last date. To change or stop it, see Changing or correcting things.
- Put the wording in the email itself. Scriblet doesn’t read attachments, so a flyer on its own won’t become the announcement.
A weekly event, like a prayer meeting, is set up on the Recurring page in the Scriblet console instead. See Repeating events. To put people on a duty for several weeks, send a duty schedule.
Answering Scriblet’s questions
Section titled “Answering Scriblet’s questions”Use Reply to answer. A reply joins the same conversation, so a short answer like “the 17th” is enough. A new email starts a new conversation, and Scriblet won’t know what it answers.
An email question waits 7 days. After that, send your update again.
Sending files
Section titled “Sending files”You can attach flyers, schedules and other files. Scriblet saves them in your organization’s bulletin folder for your administrators to use.
- Scriblet doesn’t read files. Put your update in the email itself, not only in an attachment.
- Files it keeps: PDF, pictures (JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, HEIC), Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, their OpenDocument versions, and text or RTF files.
- Up to 25 MB each. Larger files, and other kinds, aren’t saved.
- Small pictures, like the logo in an email signature, are set aside rather than put in the folder.
Sending a duty schedule
Section titled “Sending a duty schedule”To set up who is on a duty for several weeks, email the whole schedule in the message, not as an attachment. For example, list the duty, the people in order, and the first and last dates.
- Scriblet emails back the schedule week by week, and asks you to check it.
- To change something, reply with what’s different, like “swap Zac and Larry” or “it ends a week earlier”. Scriblet sends it again.
- When it’s right, reply yes. Scriblet replies “Published the duty schedule…” and it’s on the calendar.
Nothing is on the calendar until you reply yes. A draft you don’t approve within 7 days is dropped.
If you text a schedule, Scriblet emails you the draft to approve, so your administrator needs your email address.
Emails you might get
Section titled “Emails you might get”“This address isn’t on the organization’s list of contributors…” You sent from an address Scriblet doesn’t know. Your message has gone to your administrators, and nothing has been added. Send from your usual address, or ask your administrator to update it.
“We are unable to locate your organization from the address you wrote to.” Check the address against your welcome email. It needs the + part.
“Sorry, we couldn’t process your message just now.” Something went wrong on Scriblet’s side. Send your email again.
Questions
Section titled “Questions”Can I use a different email address? Scriblet only recognizes the one address your organization has for you. Ask your administrator to change it.
Do out-of-office replies cause problems? No. Scriblet ignores automatic replies.
I texted STOP. Can I still email? Yes. STOP only turns off texts.
