Texting START
Before you can send updates to Scriblet by text, or get texts from it, text START to your organization’s Scriblet number. You only need to do this once.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Your administrator adds you first. Scriblet only answers people on your organization’s list. When you’re added, you get an email called “You’ve been added to your organization on Scriblet”.
- That email has your Scriblet number. It’s the only place the number is given. Save it in your contacts as “Scriblet - your organization” so you know Scriblet’s texts when they come.
Turning texts on
Section titled “Turning texts on”- Start a new text to the Scriblet number in your email.
- Type START and nothing else.
- Send it. You get a text back saying you’re subscribed.
That’s it. You’re ready to send your first update.
Text from the phone your administrator has for you. Scriblet knows who you are, and which organization you’re with, from your phone number and the number you text. It doesn’t act on texts from any other phone.
Use this number for all your organization’s updates, and please don’t share it. Only people your administrator has added can use it.
If you sent an update first
Section titled “If you sent an update first”If you text Scriblet anything before START, it doesn’t use your message. It texts you back instead, asking you to reply START:
Scriblet: To use Scriblet by text, including replies to your messages and alerts about your organization’s data, reply START. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out. Terms: https://scriblet.io/scriblet-terms-of-service.html
Text START, then send your update again. The first one wasn’t saved. You get this reminder at most once a day.
START on its own
Section titled “START on its own”START only works when it’s the whole message. Capitals don’t matter, and “Start.” works too. UNSTOP does the same thing.
“Start please” or “Yes” don’t turn texts on. Scriblet reads them as an ordinary message.
Turning texts off
Section titled “Turning texts off”Text STOP to end texts from Scriblet, both ways. Scriblet won’t act on anything you text it and won’t text you anything, including replies and alerts.
If you text Scriblet after that, it emails you to say your message wasn’t used, if your organization has your email address. It does this at most once a day.
To turn texts back on, text START again, then send your update again. Keywords lists every word Scriblet recognizes.
Prefer email?
Section titled “Prefer email?”Email doesn’t need START. The same welcome email gives you an address for your updates. Send them from the email address the welcome email went to. See Sending updates by email.
Questions
Section titled “Questions”I didn’t get the welcome email. Check your spam folder. If it isn’t there, ask your administrator to check that they added you, with the right email address.
I texted START and nothing came back. Make sure you texted the number in your welcome email, from the phone your administrator has for you. Check you sent START on its own. Still nothing? Ask your administrator to check your phone number on your organization’s list.
Does texting cost me anything? No, but your carrier’s usual message rates apply.
